BREEAM Assessment and Eco Property Investment
Assessing the environmental impact of a property - how eco friendly
or green it is - is a complex issue. The BREEAM property assessment
process was created in 1990 to assess the environmental performance
of buildings. Versions of this environmental criteria are updated
regularly in line with UK Building Regulations and different building
versions have been created since its launch to assess the various
building types.
All these versions look at the same broad range of environmental
impacts:
Credits are awarded in each of these areas according to a property's
performance. The credits are then added together to produce an overall
score. The property is then rated on a scale of 'pass', 'good',
'very good' or 'excellent' and a certificate is awarded to the property
development.
